A lovely set of short stories, ranging from novelettes to short-shorts. It includes one of my favourite Barstow short stories, The Actor.

Other information
Several stories from this collection have been dramatized. The Human Element was produced as a TV play in 1964 on ATV; and also as a radio play (with the title We could always fit a Sidecar) in 1974. The Desperadoes was broadcast as a radio play in 1964, and The Pity of it all was made into a TV play on ABC in 1966, and a radio play in 1967. The Actor was made into a TV play (entitled Albert's Part) for the series The Cost of Loving, which was broadcast by Yorkshire TV in 1977.
